Giacomo Hotel a Success Story

The Giacomo

Giacomo Hotel

The beautiful and luxurious Giacomo Hotel, once the tallest building in Niagara Falls USA, is an example of a downtown rebuilding process that began in the Falls in 2004. Formerly known as the United Office Building, the Giacomo Hotel building was originally constructed in an art deco design and stands twenty stories tall. The Giacomo Hotel

The Giacomo HotelThe building was vacant for much of the 1990’s, but in 2004 developer Carl Paladino and Ellicott Development purchased it from USA Niagara Development Corporation for one dollar and proceeded to make extensive renovations. Paladino added twenty-seven upscale apartments, 38 luxury boutique rooms and several floors of office space to totally transform the aging structure.

The revival of the twenty-story building which at one time was the tallest in all of Niagara County marked a success story for both USA Niagara Development and Carl Paladino himself. The former New York State Republican Gubernatorial candidate has turned several old buildings into useful, re-purposed facilities over the twenty years.

The Giacomo Hotel building was originally designed by architect James A. Johnson and constructed in 1929 out of steel and pressed terra cotta brick in a Mayan style.
