10th Annual Town of Niagara Electric Lights Parade Nov 1st

JB Aaron to sing National Anthem and Bob Koshinski to be Master of Ceremonies for this year’s 10th Annual ELECTRIC LIGHTS PARADE in the Town of Niagara which will begin at 5:30 pm on Saturday, November 1st.

Electric Lights ParadeA major highlight of the ELECTRIC LIGHTS PARADE is the appearance of Santa Claus who will be on hand to greet the crowd and Niagara Active Hose Fire Company, 6010 Lockport Road is hosting a Children’s Party following the parade for photos and visits with the children.

A Food Drive will also be part of this year’s NIAGARA ELECTRIC LIGHTS PARADE. Volunteers will gather non-perishable food donations from parade spectators on behalf of the Community Mission, St. Vincent DePaul and Niagara Presbyterian Food Pantries. If participants wish, Parade organizers encourage donations the food to their Church Food Pantries and let them know it is on behalf of the Niagara Electric Lights Parade.

The major sponsor for the parade is Republic Services (Allied Waste Industries of Niagara Falls, NY). Allied Waste owns and operates the Niagara Falls Sanitary Landfill, located at the intersection of 56th Street and Niagara Falls Boulevard.

Last year’s ELECTRIC LIGHTS PARADE drew several thousand spectators, along with the hundreds who were part of the bands, floats and community groups which took part.

The ELECTRIC LIGHTS PARADE is organized and presented by the Town of Niagara, the Town of Niagara Business and Professional Association, Inc., the Niagara USA Chamber.

Niagara Falls Sports Hall of Fame 2014 Class Inducted

Eleven new members of the Niagara Falls Sports Hall of Fame were inducted Saturday night at the Como restaurant in Niagara Falls. A crowd of over 300 were on hand for the inductions which included Fran Bax, Mark Cheers, Jack Dunmead, Bob Koshinski, Willie Moore, Jim Zakia, Gary Barrette, Jim Bradshaw, Oscar Colvin, Tony Genova and Shawn O’Leary. Joe Promowitz received “The Robert Eagler Memorial Award” given each year to a deceased candidate.

These individuals were voted in for their contributions to the community as outstanding athletes and or coaches, managers, organizers, officials, athletic directors, sponsors, sports promoters and volunteers. Eligible recipients must be 55 years of age or older to be considered. The organization, originally The Old Timers Sports Hall Of Fame, was established in 1968 and 290 members have been inducted.

NFR CEO Anthony Bergamo Announces 2014 FLEF Scholarships Event

Anthony Bergamo, CEO of Niagara Falls Redevelopment and Chairman of the Federal Law Enforcement Foundation, today announced the annual awarding of 148 scholarships on behalf of the FLEF Board of Directors. The Federal Law Enforcement Foundation has awarded over 4,000 grants and 3,100 scholarships in 200 communities and 12 foreign countries over the past 27 years of service.

The scholarships will be awarded to recipients on November 14th, at the Foundation’s Annual Luncheon at the Waldorf Astoria in New York City. This year’s honorees and speakers are Congressman Peter King, Lt. General Michael Flynn, New York City Police Commissioner William Bratton and actor Steve Buscemi, now starring in HBO’s Boardwalk Empire.

“It is a privilege to serve with the Board who give generously of their time while being responsible for a major financial commitment,” said Federal Law Enforcement Foundation Chairman Anthony Bergamo. “I cannot thank each and every one of my fellow board members enough for their continued support. It is a privilege we all share in serving the law enforcement community.”

Established in 1988, the Federal Law Enforcement Foundation has provided financial assistance to all federal and local law enforcement agencies. Economic assistance is provided to those killed in the line of duty as well as provide assistance to those suffering from a serious illness or recovering from a natural disaster such as fire, hurricanes or earthquakes.

Throughout the years the Foundation has honored a number of dignitaries such as President Bill Clinton, Secretary Henry Kissinger and Cardinal Timothy Dolan.

Also serving on the Board with Chairman Anthony Bergamo are David Blumenfeld, John Casitimidis, Charles Cohen, Jamie Coulter, David Levinson, Charles Merinoff, Ron Perelman, Howard Rubenstein and Zane Tankel.
