Annual NW “Once a Falcon, Always a Falcon” Event to be Held Oct 14th

Once a Falcon Always a Falcon

All alumni of Niagara Wheatfield high school are invited to the annual “Once a Falcon, Always a Falcon” event, Friday October 14th at 7:00 PM at the Niagara Active Hose hall, 6010 Lockport Road in the Town of Niagara.

Former Niagara Wheatfield football players and coaches are encouraged to attend this year’s event, joining Hall of Fame coach Armand Cacciatore who will be in attendance.

The “Once a Falcon, Always a Falcon” event will feature music, refreshments, raffles and 50/50 drawings. Created in 2015, the “Once a Falcon, Always a Falcon” event features friendship and fellowship for Niagara Wheatfield graduates, family and friends.

The Niagara Wheatfield wrestling parent’s booster club will handle food, snacks and soft drinks as a fund raiser.

Sandy Beach to Receive the Kiwanis Media Person of the Year Award

Sandy Beach will receive the Kiwanis of Lewiston Media Person of the Year Award Sunday September 11th at 8 PM during the Peach Queen finals, part of the 59th annual Niagara County Peach Festival September 9, 10 and 11th. Beach is the #1 rated WBEN talk show host and has a Hall of Fame career that includes local stints at WKBW, WHTT and 102.5 FM.  Beach is a three time nominee for Billboard Personality of the Year and was inducted into the Buffalo Broadcasters Hall of Fame in 2003.

Peach Festival

Maryalice Demler

Popular WGRZ-TV on-air personalities Maryalice Demler, Melissa Holmes and Heather Prusak will also be a part of the 59th annual Niagara County Peach Festival.

Maryalice Demler will serve as the hostess of the Peach Queen finals Sunday night September 11th at 8:00pm on the Academy Park stage. Fourteen local teenage girls are vying this year for the 2016 Peach Queen crown.

Demler co-anchors Channel 2 News at 5:30, 6:00 and 11pm each weeknight and is an award winning reporter having won two Emmy Awards. Maryalice Demler is also a native of North Tonawanda and a former “Miss New York State” representing the Empire State in the 1990 Miss America Pageant.

Peach Festival

Melissa Holmes

Melissa Holmes will serve as the Grand Marshall of the Peach Festival Parade Saturday September 10th at 11 am. The parade will take place on Center Street in Lewiston with over 100 units and a record number of marching bands.

Holmes co-anchors 2 On Your Side’s Daybreak each weekday from 4:30 to 7:00 am after joining WGRZ in January 2012. Holmes grew up in Amherst and is a graduate of Sweet Home High School and Syracuse University’s S.I. Newhouse School of Public Communications.

WGRZ-TV sports reporter Heather Prusak will be the official starter for the 38th annual Peach Festival 5k Run Saturday September 10th at 9 am on Center Street in Lewiston.

2016 Niagara County Peach Festival to Hold Cheerleading Competition

Niagara County Peach Festival

There will be a Cheerleading Competition at the Niagara County Peach Festival at 6 PM on Friday September 9th at Academy Park on Center Street in Lewiston. Competition will be held for high school Varsity and Junior Varsity cheerleading squads or Youth Football and All Star Squads.

Participants will perform a maximum five minute routine containing a cheer and music portion, minimum performance time two and a half minutes. Trophies will be given for 1st, 2nd and 3rd place in each category.

There will be no charge for teams to enter and all entries must be in by September 6th. Go to www.lewistonpeachfestival.org/get-involved/cheerleading-application/ for the application to enter.

A reminder, free parking with a shuttle to the Peach Festival will again be available. As you enter Lewiston on Center Street follow the Free Shuttle signs and turn left at the second traffic light onto Portage Road and follow the signs to the shuttle lot. Climate controlled Gray Line shuttles will travel to the festival grounds entrance and back to the parking lot throughout the three days.
